Our History

Kalco Machine and Manufacturing Co started in 1998 when David Kulbeth, an experienced machine shop supervisor, purchased a 2000 square foot shop from a gentleman who did machining as a hobby.  This entrepreneurial risk grew out of David’s passion to build a shop where machinists were respected and customers were treated honestly and fairly.

The original shop had manual equipment only, requiring the establishment within this new shop of a core group of highly skilled manual machinists.  In July of 1999, the shop capacity and technology was greatly advanced with the purchase of the first CNC machining center, followed shortly thereafter by the purchase of a CNC lathe.  The company continued to grow, adding employees and customers.  In October 2002 it was necessary to move to a larger building of 5000 square feet at the previous location at Sheppard Access Road.

In July of 2007, Kalco and Charles Donnell formed a company called Affiliated Energy Products, Inc. with 5,000 additional square feet on-site for a total of 14,000 sq. feet with an additional 7 employees.  In 2012 Affiliated Energy Products moved to a new facility of 15,000 sq. feet in a small community about 10 miles away, which grew to as many as 32 employees on two shifts.  Kalco expanded their shop into the 5,000 sq. feet that Affiliated Energy Products, Inc. vacated, adding additional machines with larger part capacity in size and volume.

In 2013 Kalco and its subsidiaries added services at 1131 Sheppard Access Road with an additional 21,000 sq. feet. This facility is divided into three operations:

                1. Pipe Runners Plus LLC which does contract business with the state through TXDOT,as well as customized pipe and welding services.

                2. Affiliated Energy Products Inc. black oxide and zinc plating division.

                3. Kalco Machine and Manufacturing Co. additional machining capacity to complement its services to meet demand for on time delivery.

In 2019 Kalco moved into its current  facility  featuring 130,000  square feet of space.

Quality has always been a top priority for Kalco Machine, establishing a Quality Manual when still just a three man shop.  In 2011 Kalco saw a need to improve its quality system to meet the standards of the industry.  At that time we established a system to conform to International Standards by becoming ISO 9001-2008 certified.  With this certification in place Kalco was urged by its registrar to upgrade to the AS 9100 standard, stating that the procedures for that standard were already in place within the company and it would benefit the company as well as provide potential customers a new vendor with excellent standards. Other quality certifications Include the following:

  • ASME ‘U’ Certified: Certification#37,186
  • ASME ‘R’ Certified: Certification #9663
  • Tracking of Corrective Actions with Reports
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Preventative Action and Process Improvements
